Sermon Series: With God’s Help

With God’s Help. We start a new year by making big promises to ourselves. We resolve all kinds of things about our health, relationships, how we will spend our money and time, and the person we hope to become by next New Year’s Eve. We also make big promises to the church every time we witness a baptism. As a church, we declare, “With God’s help, we will so order our lives after the example of Christ that surrounded by steadfast love, this person may be established in the faith and confirmed and strengthened in the way that leads to life eternal.”

Inevitably, we struggle to keep such promises. The ones we make to ourselves and the ones we make to others. Maybe we lack a plan to get us there.  Likely, we lack the strength or resources to accomplish such lofty goals by ourselves.

Good news: in Christ, we can find the strength we lack. In Scripture, we can find the way forward. In the Church, we find communal accountability. With God’s help, we can keep our promises.
