Jesus is important to us, personally, because of His Atonement, teachings, hope, peace, and example. He has helped us to change our lives, face our trials and move forward with faith as we journey back to Him and His Father.
The following extraction from Tony Dungy’s book, “UNcommon,” inspired us as a meaningful explanation of our need and love of Jesus Christ.
The Bible says, “God blesses those who realize their need for Him.”
He wants you to spend eternity with Him in heaven. It is pretty clear in the Scriptures that the way to ensure this is to recognize that you need Him. None of us is perfect and because of our sin (falling short of God’s standard for our lives), we are separated from Him, Without being holy, like God, we cannot be in a right relationship with Him without SOMETHING ELSE OCCURRING.
God has provided that SOMETHING ELSE in the person of His Son, Jesus. God loved us so much that He sent His only Son to earth to die for us and take the punishment for our sinful nature so that we could have a direct relationship thru Christ with God. And all we have to do is desire to be in a relationship with God, understand that we can’t do it ourselves, and believe that God sent His Son for us.
It’s a free gift from God.
When we believe in our hearts and accept Jesus Christ as our Savior (He died on the cross for us) and our Lord (making Him the number-one priority in our lives), then we are assured of spending eternity with Him in heaven.
