Please note that most of these positions are expected to be a three-year commitment. Many are also limited to those who are professed and engaged members of the church. Not yet a member? Governance & Administration
Administrative Board Chair
Provides the church’s top lay leadership, presiding over the Administrative Council and helping the pastor guide the congregation’s overall mission and ministry. Meets every other month with the Council, plus periodic planning check-ins with the pastor. Chair must be a professed and active member of the church.

- Trusted, experienced leader with a track record of church service
- Skilled at running efficient, focused meetings
- Strategic thinker who keeps the mission central
- Strong partner and communicator with pastor & staff
Lay Leader
The primary representative of the congregation’s laity — a bridge between the pastor and members. Serves on Church Council, Finance, Nominations, and SPRC by virtue of the office. Ongoing, folded into those committees’ regular meetings.
Member qualities
- Person of faith, integrity, and good standing
- Strong advocate for the laity
- Comfortable serving on multiple committees at once
- Collaborative partner to the pastor
Lay Delegate to Annual Conference
Represents Chamblee First at Annual Conference, votes on the congregation’s behalf, and reports back within three months. Also serves on Church Council, Finance, and SPRC. Annual Conference meets for several days each June.
Member qualities
- Member in good standing for at least two years
- Able to attend the full multi-day session
- Clear communicator who can report back to the congregation
Administrative Council
Oversees the church’s overall mission, ministry, and business — setting policy, approving budgets, and coordinating across every committee. Composed of committee chairs, the Lay Leader, the Lay Delegate, and a few at-large seats. Meets every other month, ~90 minutes. Voice and vote limited to Council Members. Meetings are open to everyone to attend.

Finance CommitteeSeats open
Manages the church’s financial resources — budgeting, financial reporting, and stewardship campaigns. Meets every 3rd Monday, ~90 minutes. Open to all; only members vote.

- Able to explain financial matters clearly
- High integrity and trustworthiness
- Organized and disciplined
Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC)Seats open
Liaison between church staff and the congregation on personnel matters — pastoral appointments, hiring, evaluations, and HR concerns. Meets every 1st Monday, ~90 minutes. Closed, to preserve confidentiality.

- Discreet, able to maintain confidentiality
- Neutral, fair listener
- Compassionate toward staff and congregation
- Strong conflict-resolution skills
Trustees CommitteeSeats open
Maintains the church’s property and facilities — repairs, renovations, insurance, and legal matters. Meets every 2nd Monday, ~90 minutes, open to everyone.

- Practical problem-solver
- Proactive with facility needs
- Knowledge of property care, or willing to learn
- Safety-minded and detail-oriented
Foundation / Endowment CommitteeSeats open
Stewards financial resources given outside the annual budget — bequests, memorials, endowment funds — for ministry innovation and special projects. Meets quarterly.
Member qualities
- Sound judgment with long-term stewardship
- Comfortable with legacy-giving concepts, or willing to learn
- High integrity with donor funds
Stewardship Committee
Cultivates a year-round culture of generosity and leads the annual giving campaign in partnership with Finance. Meets regularly, with added meetings ahead of the fall campaign.

Nominations & Leadership Development CommitteeSeats open
Identifies, recruits, and equips members for leadership — the committee that keeps this very page up to date. Meets bimonthly and as needed, ~60 minutes. Closed.

- Fair and encouraging toward new leaders
Recording Secretary
Keeps accurate minutes of Administrative Council meetings and maintains the church’s official record of decisions. Meets on the Council’s bimonthly schedule.

Church Historian
Establishes and maintains the congregation’s archives, preserves records, and promotes interest in our heritage — including Heritage Sunday and anniversary celebrations. Self-directed work, with periodic reports to Council.

- Patient researcher
Congregational Care & Discipleship
Worship Committee
Coordinates the support ministries behind Sunday worship — ushers, liturgists, altar guild, Communion stewards, altarscape design and special service setup — and partners with the pastor and music leaders. Meets at least quarterly, open to everyone.

Adult Discipleship / Adult MinistriesChair open
Keeps the big picture of adult faith formation in view, planning study, spiritual growth, and fellowship for adults of every age. Collaborates with Adult Sunday School class leaders and pastor.

- Good listener, discerning of adults’ varied needs
- Comfortable equipping teachers and leaders
Christian Education
Oversees teaching and formation across age groups — recruiting teachers, choosing curriculum, and ensuring Safe Sanctuary policies are followed. Meets monthly, with extra planning before each program season.

- Comfortable training volunteer teachers
Small Group Ministries
Develops and coordinates the church’s network of small groups and Bible studies, identifying and training new group leaders. Meets periodically with group leaders.

Membership & Care Coordinators
Welcomes new members and coordinates care ministries — homebound visitation, meal trains, follow-up with guests. Ongoing, coordinated with volunteers as needs arise.

- Compassionate toward the homebound and grieving
Communications
Helps communications staff ensure that the congregation and community stay well informed on ministry opportunities, needs, and special events through various mediums including website, social media, bulletins, newsletters, photography, videography, etc. Meets as needed with ministry leaders to gather updates.

Children, Youth & Family
Children & Family Ministries Council
Plans and evaluates ministry with children birth through elementary age, overseeing safety policies and children’s faith formation. Meets monthly. Works directly with Children’s Ministries Director.

Chamblee Methodist Preschool and Kindergarten Board (Chair & Co-Chair)
Oversees the weekday preschool/kindergarten ministry — policy, budget, staffing, and program regulations — alongside the preschool director. Meets monthly.

- Comfortable with budget & licensing
- Warm presence for young families
Youth Ministry Council
Guides ministry with middle and high schoolers — discipleship, fellowship, mission, and service. Meets monthly during the school year, open to youth, parents, and volunteers.

- Strong event organizer
President, Chamblee Methodist Youth
A youth leadership role giving students a voice in planning the youth group and representing peers on the Administrative Council. Aligns with the Youth Ministry Council schedule.

Scouting Liaison
The link between the church and Scout Troop 268, Cub Scout Pack 268, Girl Scout troops and service unit, and area scouting councils in scheduling use of the Chamblee First UMC property and Scout Hut for scouting activities. Serves as the Chartered Organization Representative (COR) in the leadership of Troop 268 and Pack 268. Encourages the participation and engagement of scouting units in church events, including Scout Sunday, service activities, and children and youth community events.

Outreach, Mission & Fellowship
Mission and Outreach Committee
Leads community service and outreach — identifying opportunities, organizing service projects, and encouraging involvement in acts of compassion and justice. Meets every 3rd Tuesday, open to everyone.

- Strong organizer of projects and volunteers
- Aware of local & global mission opportunities
Recreation Committee
Plans fellowship and recreational events — sports leagues, game nights, picnics — that build community and welcome newcomers. Meets as needed to plan events.

United Methodist Women (President)
Convenes and coordinates the local women’s ministry group, chairing meetings and representing the group to Church Council and the district. Meets monthly, open to all women of the congregation.

Men’s Council (Chair)Chair open
Leads United Methodist Men in mentoring men toward active discipleship through fellowship, prayer, mission, and service. Meets monthly, open to all men of the congregation and community.

Self-nominations and peer nominations are both welcome. The Nominations & Leadership Development Committee will prayerfully review every submission and follow up personally to discuss your submission. Please note that it will still be this committee’s responsibility to seat and slate leaders for the coming year. Self- and peer nominations are new ways of ensuring they have the insight they need to complete their leadership role.
