Go and Be Blessed
Linda King,  Director of Hospitality & Membership Care

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.

Luke 2:15

What stirs people to respond with aid after a natural disaster, like Hurricane Ian or as we witnessed years ago, Hurricane Katrina? Does an angel speak to each and every one of them? What causes hundreds of volunteers to go to offer assistance?

When the shepherds went to Bethlehem, they weren’t sure of what they would find. They weren’t sure if they would be welcomed and allowed to see this perfect child. But they went on faith. They followed the angels’ instructions to GO, and they went without question. When they arrived, they were blessed to be in the presence of Jesus.

The volunteers who go and offer relief in times of disaster are also blessed by the people they meet when they respond to the call, just as much as they give blessings to those in need. Each volunteer goes without knowing what they will encounter at the scene, but they go in faith. Faith that God has instructed them to care for His people, ALL of them, people who come from every walk of life. God instructs us to minister to the LEAST of these.

Just as the shepherds followed by faith to find a tiny baby in a barn stall, so must we follow by faith, not just in emergencies or tragedies in our lives, but EVERY day!!

Prayer: Father, help each of us to stop and wait to hear your precious voice and spread the gift of Your son during this special time of year. Amen
